Collins’ Family Portraits
It was time for another family portrait. This time, it was a family that I know well. The Collins. I first met John and Jill when I photographed their engagement session and wedding, at Paradise Point, a few years ago. Since then, their family has grown a lot. They now have two very energetic boys, Calvin and Dexter. After exchanging a few messages, the Collins decided to use Solana Beach Trails as the location. It’s one of my favorite family portrait locations in San Diego, due to its rustic looks, and diversity of backgrounds. Also, it’s a pretty empty place, with not a lot traffic. And, that always helps. We parked the cars, and started walking the trail. I prefer to walk all the way to the end of the trail first, and then photograph on the way back. That way, we are closer to sunset time, and lighting is even better. The trail is a couple of miles long, and in addition to a beautiful walk, it helps to spend the children’s energy a bit, before they have to stand still for the family portrait session. I can never stress that enough: on sessions involving kids, it’s important to alternate some play time. Posing for photos is not easy for children, and it’s crucial that we make it a fun moment, and not something they will not enjoy. Aside from great memories, I strive to provide a great experience for everyone involved. I look forward to many sessions with John, Jill, and their families in the future!
