San Diego Photographers with Hage Surfboards

Every once in a while, San Diego photographers like me get to work on challenging shoots. This was one of those days. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not complaining at all. Yes, surf photography is a challenge, but it’s one of the things I enjoy the most. And, it’s alwats great to give it a breat from wedding photography once in a while.

This shoot was all about taking marketing photos for HAGE Surfboards. A two-day job, we set off to Encinitas and Carlsbad to take photos of two great surfers – Filipe Hage and Tarso Tenorio.

Filipe has been a good friend of mine for a long time, making the job even more worth it. I had to take some promotional shots for his surfboard brand. Of course, this is an opportunity I would never waste. The concept made me even more excited. The mere thought of shooting those great surfers in action was exhilarating.

Filipe and Tarso both have a very classic approach when riding the waves. This made them amazing subjects. Filipe even switched boards a few times, but that didn’t keep him from performing well.

We did one sunset session, and one morning session. San Diego photographers like me would always look for the best kind of lighting possible. I believe that by splitting this entire shoot into two sessions; I was able to do just that. The variation in lighting conditions helped me make the shots even more interesting. It didn’t even matter that I had to swim the entire time.

And yes, I was swimming non-stop, especially on the first day. There was just so much current. But I always find it fun to swim with my camera. It’s the hardest kind of photography I ever had to do, but it was all worth it.

If you’re looking for a classic longboard, Filipe Hage is the person to look for. It was such a dream taking shot after shot of those boards as he rode the waves. These are the kinds of shots San Diego photographers like me love to take. I perfectly captured what passion was all about not only through the products Filipe made, but through the way he slashed through those waves as well.
